Background information Shoppers World Started in 1930s in Baltimore which was founded by Sam Dushey Sr. Shoppers World has departmental stores located in several parts US. Shoppers World has a total of 40 stores that they operate. The company is involved in selling casual and dresses all genders and all ages. The Company sells shoes and home clothing accessories. The company current CEO is Sam Durshey. The business is a family business that is in its third generation. Before Sam Durshey became the CEO of the business, there were eleven stores that he has grown to 40 within a period of 10 years. The business has a mission of providing its customers with latest styles with the lowest prices. The business envision to always get new and for less. The business is also customer centered to offering value ("Shoppers World", 2017). Sam Durshey takes the role of undercover boss to understand how the organizations employees have been affected the changes that have happened in the business for the past 10year. This is in line to enabling him offer effective leadership in the business. Sam Durshey is aiming to opening 500 stores around the work in the coming years (Starr, 2015). Issues in the organization The following issues were identified in the Shoppers World business workplaces; Security: The business lacks a security system to address stealing in the stores. Rapid organizational growth: The business has encountered rapid growth in terms of store size and number of employees. The values and ethics in the workplace are not followed leading to inappropriate relationships in the company. Communication between levels of the organizations is not well defined and there are issues in reporting. There are merchandising problems related to arrangements and availability. The business lacks a good system to address orgazation of mechanizes and records The business is still using outdated technologies in the stores. The gadgets used in the store require setup that is connected to Wi-Fi that keeps on failing. The Wi-Fi connection is weak and there ineffective in severing the need of the store. The business lacks a proper standardized training program from new employees. Employees learn from other employees. The employees in the business are having minimal rewards of their efforts in their workplaces. Changes Required The management of the Shoppers World needs to make several changes to enable the success of the businesss strategies. The changes required are as follows; Developing a training program for staffs Employing security staffs in the stores Formulating ethics and values for workplace Defining communication in the business Adopting advanced technologies that is appropriate Installing merchandize checker Increasing rewards for employees These changes are important in improving leadership in the business by enabling smooth running of the business operation. Organizational change methods The organizational changes method will enable the implementation of the changes that have been outlined in this paper. The organizational changes will require a formulation of an organizational structure that will improve effectiveness and efficiency in the business. The organizational structure will define communication, duties and responsibilities of employees and management in all levels are well instituted. The business should focus on training of employees to improve their skill and institute professionalism in the workplace. There should be adopting of the performance appraisal tools that focus on individual employee to enable acknowledgement in order to promote, train and realize skills needed in the business.
